DuraFlex Flue Liner Replacement Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

DuraFlex Flue Liner Replacement: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide

We stock and install DuraFlex-compatible flue liner replacement sections right here in Long Beach, with most swaps running between $950 and $2,400 installed depending on length, diameter, and access. If your liner is visible from the roof and the sections are straightforward to pull, we can usually have the new one in the same day. Most owners find out their DuraFlex liner has failed one of two ways: they see water staining on the ceiling near the chimney, or the oil burner technician flags it during annual service because exhaust isn’t drafting the way it should. Either way, the liner has stopped being a liner and started being a problem.

Which DuraFlex Models This Applies To

DuraFlex makes a few different liner lines, and the part that fits one doesn’t always fit another. The main lines you’ll see in Long Beach homes are the DuraFlex SS (standard stainless), DuraFlex AL (aluminum, used mostly for gas), and the DuraFlex 304/316 alloy liners that handle oil and wood exhaust. Aluminum is the one we replace most often. It wasn’t built for the salt air that rolls in off Reynolds Channel, and after a decade or so it thins out and perforates at the seams. The quickest way to identify what you have is to look at the tag at the top of the liner or check the invoice from the original install. No tag? Pull a section and look at the lock seam: aluminum is dull gray and bends with almost no effort, 304 stainless has a slight shine and resists finger pressure, and 316 feels heavier and stays bead-blasted matte. Measure the inside diameter, not the outside. A 6-inch DuraFlex liner measures about 6-1/4 inches outside. We’re an independent service company, not affiliated with DuraFlex, so we’ll tell you when a quality aftermarket section works just as well as OEM and when it doesn’t. For aluminum, aftermarket is fine and usually less money. For the 316 alloy, we recommend staying with actual DuraFlex stock since the alloy spec matters for wood exhaust.

Signs Your DuraFlex Flue Liner Replacement Is Failing

  • Water stains on the ceiling or wall near the chimney. This usually means the liner has rusted through or a seam has separated, and condensation from exhaust is wicking into the masonry. It shows up as a brownish ring that spreads slowly, often mistaken for a roof leak.
  • A rusty or musty smell from the fireplace, even when it hasn’t been used in months. That’s the smell of a liner sweating and holding moisture. In Long Beach, the humidity off the water makes this happen faster than inland.
  • Flakes or chunks of metal falling into the firebox. Aluminum liners shed visible flakes as they corrode; stainless usually fails at the seams instead, so you’ll see thin strips of metal separating rather than chunks.
  • The oil burner has started short-cycling or the exhaust smells different outside. A perforated liner changes the draft, which changes the burn. If your boiler has started acting like it’s not getting enough air, the liner is one of the first places we look.
  • You can see visible gaps or separations when you look down the flue from the roof. This is the one we want homeowners to check before calling anyone. If you can see a seam that’s opened up by more than a quarter inch, the liner has already failed in that spot and it’s not going to get better on its own.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what you’re actually paying for on a DuraFlex flue liner replacement in Long Beach.

  • Liner material: $25-$58 per foot, depending on diameter and whether it’s aluminum, 304, or 316 alloy. A typical single-story Long Beach ranch house uses 20-30 feet.
  • Labor and access: $350-$700. Steep roofs, tall chimneys, or liners that haven’t been touched since the 1980s all push this up.
  • Connector and top plate hardware: $75-$180. You always replace these with the liner; reusing the old connector is how you get a failed seam six months later.
  • Disposal of the old liner: Included. We don’t leave corroded metal in your yard.

Every liner we install is backed by our 90-Day Done Right Promise. If the new liner isn’t drafting correctly or a seam opens up within 90 days, one call gets Wendell and his crew back out at no charge. We give you the total number before we start, and the camera footage of the chimney interior is yours to keep. You’ll see exactly what we saw.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s one thing you can do safely, and that’s the visual check from the roof. If you’re comfortable on a ladder, look down the flue with a flashlight on a dry day. If you see separated seams, perforation, or metal that flakes when you touch it with a stick, you have your answer. Replacing the liner itself is not a DIY job, and here’s why: you’re working at height, pulling 20 to 30 feet of metal through a masonry chase, and connecting a new liner to an exhaust appliance that, if misaligned, vents carbon monoxide into your house instead of up the chimney. That’s not a risk worth taking to save a few hundred dollars, and it’s the reason we don’t publish step-by-step instructions for it. If you’re not sure whether your liner actually needs replacing, call us at (631) 378-3317 and we’ll put a camera down it. If it doesn’t need doing, I’ll tell you that too.
